Philosophy

We are different. At Bethesda Dental Care, we strive for excellence every day not just in the quality of dental care we provide but also in customer service and patient satisfaction. When it comes to dental treatment, there are many treatment options available with varying costs. We will objectively present multiple treatment options including the benefits and shortcomings of each and allow the patient to select the treatment that best suits his or her needs. No hard sells here! We’re here to help patients achieve and maintain healthy teeth and gums—not to convince them to spend more time or money than is necessary.

Healthy teeth and gums greatly enhance our lives. A smile is the centerpiece of our appearance and a pleasant smile can be a source of self-confidence and happiness. We offer many solutions to “whiten” and “straighten” teeth from orthodontics to whitening procedures to porcelain veneers. Dental and gum disease adversely effects our overall health. Eliminating inflammation, harmful bacteria and infection from the mouth improves the overall health of our entire bodies.

We strive to eliminate discomfort from dental treatment. Our use of topical anesthetics, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and even anti-anxiety medications is employed to make the patient experience as comfortable as possible. We don’t even charge a fee for the nitrous oxide. Why? Because we think that patient comfort is a part of the whole treatment process. Not an extra!

Robert Herman, D.D.S.

Dr. Herman was born and raised in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and received his undergraduate and dental degrees at the University of Maryland. After completing a general practice residency at York Hospital in York, PA, he opened Bethesda Dental Care in 1991, where he has practiced honest, ethical and top-quality family dentistry ever since. In addition, Dr. Herman spends much of his time attending continuing education courses to stay abreast of the latest dentistry technology and techniques and bringing that expertise to patients every day. In fact, Washington Consumers’ Checkbook magazine (www.checkbook.org) continuously honors Dr. Herman as a “top-rated dentist!”  He lives in Olney, MD with his wife and 2 daughters.

Staff

Sheila and Rachel are the front office staff who can help individuals with most of their dental and insurance related questions. Liz and Laura are the dental hygienists.  They are extremely competent and knowledgeable in all facets of hygiene care.  Under their care, each patient is thoroughly examined to identify or rule out dental and periodontal problems.  They provide thorough dental cleanings, scaling and root planning with a gentle touch.
